What is this place:
Taiwan Hot springs naturally recharges the mind and body of the people. There are many geothermal
hot springs throughout Taiwan. The warm waters of these springs, heated and charged by the earth's own energy, are believed to soothe, revitalize and reinvigorate the body.


Where is this place:
Taiwan is part of the collision zone between the Yangtze Plate and Philippine Sea Plate. Eastern and southern
Taiwan are the northern end of the Philippine Mobile Belt. Located next to an oceanic trench and volcanic system in a tectonic collision zone are the Taiwan Hot Springs.

Why do tourists visit this place?
Tourists visit the Taiwan Hot Springs to rejuvenate, relax and to treat certain medical conditions. There are a varieties of Hot Springs, some Hot Springs remain completely natural, in forests and alongside rivers, and are ideal spots to relieve tired muscles on a long hike through the wilderness.
For example, the free bathing areas of Wulai. The river running through Wulai are actually the hot spring that has poured through from the inner mountains, this river is in fact, still warm and many locals and tourists visit it.

There are some other
hot springs that have been diverted into bathhouses and health spas where the waters can be enjoyed in pools and private bathrooms, and other traditional treatments are also offered. 




For example, Hushan, Tenglong, and Taian hot springs are drinkable, colorless and odorless. Additionally, there are many Hakka villages in Taian, and visitors often enjoy authentic Hakka cuisine in addition to the pleasure of dipping in hot springs. 




A second example, Lushan hotspring’s bicarbonate water is clear, and bathing in it is said to ameliorate the symptoms of rheumatism and neuralgia. Drinking the water is said to regulate one's acidity and cure chronic gastritis. Every year, bathers enjoy the elegant cherry blossoms that bloom between winter and spring. The relaxing, curative effects and scenery of Lushan hot springs keep visitors coming back.

A third example,Jiaosi hot springs have been a popular tourist destination since the Japanese colonial period. Locals use the mineral water to grow mineral rich vegetables: a specialty of Jiaosi. Tourists visit Jiaosi to rejuvenate in their hotsprings,to delight in their signature dishes and to learn more about Jiaosi rich heritage and culture.

A fourth example,the Chao Ri hot springs on Green Island are the only seawater hot springs in Taiwan , and the only hot springs on an off-shore island. Visitors can enjoy the seaside coastal landscape while soaking in these
hot springs .

A fifth example, Guanziling
hot springs have been renowned since the Japanese colonial era. Because the hot springs are loaded with minerals from subterranean rock strata, the water is of a dark grey hue; the hot springs are also referred to as the “mud springs” or the “black hot springs .” The abundant minerals make the skin soft and radiant. With the exception of the Sicilian hot springs and the Japanese Kagoshima hot springs , the Taiwanese Guanziling hot springs are the only other hot springs of this kind.

With tourists visiting the Taiwan Hot Springs, there will be an exchange of values as the presence of tourists provides an opportunity for interaction between the locals and the tourists. This promotes better understanding of cultures and social practices. By learning and exchanging experiences with one another, tourists and locals are able to enrich their understanding of cultures of one another.

With locals interacting with the tourists, the locals may be more aware of their heritage as tourists shows interest in the local culture and history. Over time, the local people may more actively preserve the custom and practices that are part of their heritage as a result of increase in awareness. Tourism can therefore, help to preserve cultural and historical traditions as well as the
hot   springs of Taiwan.

Taiwan’s tourism industry has grown from a meager 15,000 visitors in 1956 to


over 2 million visitors per year in the 1990s. Taiwan draws mainly from the East Asia

region, which accounts for about 63 percent of its visitors. Developing the hot spring with the shape characteristic; make Taiwanese tourist industry grow up the economy of native country.
As
hot springs are popular in Taiwan. In recent years, as people pay attention to the arrangements of living quality and recreation activity more and more. In addition, the reports said that hot spring baths relaxes the body and mind and treat diseases. These benefits make the hot spring become popular in Taiwan, and it widely attracts the attention of tourists. Therefore, Taiwan’s economy has grown as more tourists are attracted to experiencing the benefits of Taiwan Hot Springs.
